Generations celebrate at Devil Dog Reunion Brunch By Eadie Wood The first annual Devil Dog Reunion Brunch was considered a huge success by the more than 50 people who gathered at the Well Seasoned Restaurant on Saturday, July 14, to celebrate graduation from Morrilton High School more than 50 years ago. Alumni from 12 years joined in fellowship. Emma Scroggin, a 1934 graduate, had the earliest graduation date, with the classmates from 1951, in town for their own 50-year reunion, having the largest number present. Other years represented were 1934, 1936, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1942, 1945, 1947, 1950, 1951, 1953, and 1956. Phyllis McKuin, too young to be a member of this elite group, joined in the celebration. Graduates in attendance traveled from seven states plus various cities all over Arkansas. This event was sponsored by the South Conway County Alumni Committee and planned by Phyllis Scroggin McKuin (class of 1962), Barbara Turner Young (class of 1959) and Eadie Wood (class of 1950). If you failed to attend this year, please contact one of the above to be sure you are on our mailing list for future events. The planning committee appreciates the support of the Morrilton merchants, the Chamber of Commerce, the UofA Community College, Morrilton, Depot Museum Volunteers, the Rialto Arts Center volunteers and the 1951 graduating class for making this day a success. In Memory of Eadie Wood, Class of 1950
Although Eadie Wood grew up in many different communities across the state because of her father's employment and actually never lived in Conway Country for very long, she landed in Oppelo long enough in the late 1940's to graduate from MHS in 1950. Following graduation, she left immediately to go to work in Pine Bluff, then Jonesboro, and then to Dallas where she primarily stayed until her decision to come home. Her employment in Dallas included many years in the oil and gas business, a long stay with the Dallas Theater Company, and a six-year commitment to the Pi Beta Phi Sorority at SMU. Her high school ties, her many visits home, and her family roots succeeded in calling her back to Conway County in retirement in March of 1998.
Eadie immediately jumped into being a very active part of many things in our community, including the South Conway Country Alumni Committee. As a member of the Alumni Committee, she successfully nurtured for four years the Morrilton High School Reunion Brunch proving to all that "Fifty is Nifty". Her death on July 23, 2004 saddened us all. Her parents were the late Jack and Lillian Wood of Oppelo. Her brothers were David Harold Wood, Bob Ed "Pinky" Wood, and Billy Jack Wood. We are thankful that Eadie has been a part of our alumni group. |
